SJMA Volunteer Opportunities at Second Harvest Food Bank for the holidays

SJMA is also working with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley has secured twenty (20) spots on December 5, 2020 from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM.  Currently, there are spots still available for SJMA members to provide in person support that will require setting up tables, unload and bring food inside a community room, distribute groceries and fresh produce to program members, and clean up. 

This is a hands-on, fast-paced activity and a great way to also help our community.  Some heavy lifting (a minimum of 25 lbs) may be required. If interested, please register here.  SJMA’s group reservation ID is GR-20050.  If you have any additional questions, please contact Andrea Case at mandreacase@gmail.com

What should you expect?

• Parking may be limited, so carpooling is advised. Second Harvest is not responsible for your valuables, so please leave all valuables in the trunk of your car.
• Your health and safety is a top priority. Learn more about our health and safety requirements for volunteering on site or at a distribution.
• Social distancing will be expected for the safety of all. Please maintain six feet of distance from each other.
• Silicon  strongly encourage you to bring and wear a face mask if you have one. We will provide disposable food grade masks when we have supply.

What should I wear and bring?

• We strongly encourage you to bring and wear a face mask if you have one.
• Please wear comfortable, closed-toe footwear and long pants. Volunteers wearing high heels, open-toe shoes, or sandals are not allowed to volunteer.
• Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not permitted.
• Please tie back long hair.
• Wear comfortable clothing and if needed, bring sunglasses, sunscreen and hats.
  Some activities may be outdoors.
• Bring water and snacks. It can get very hot and volunteering involves physical activity. Come prepared so you can keep up your energy!

What if I need to cancel?

• If you need to cancel or reschedule, please access your personal site and cancel the shift(s) you can no longer attend.
• Please carefully review your schedule prior to taking a volunteer slot at one of our distribution sites. Cancellations and no shows directly impact our ability to provide the nutritious food our members need to thrive.
• If you are unable to access your personal site, please contact Second Harvest Food Bank at psvolunteerdesk@shfb.org.

What else do I need to know?

• The minimum age to volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank is 14 years old.
• A parent or adult guardian must accompany volunteers under 16 years old.
• Electronic parental permission is required in advance for volunteers under 18 years old.
